Big News on our film! The casting director team which cast Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Total Recall, and Goonies (among many others) has joined the Lost & Found team. Casting directors are crucial pieces to the puzzle, because they have relationships with all the agents...

To get LOST & FOUND made as a feature film
Six years ago, I had an idea for a film which sprang from a dozen different HARDY BOYS books buried in my subconscious. An idea about 2 brothers who go on a treasure hunt. That idea became the foundation for my first screenplay, titled LOST & FOUND. Only problem was, I had no idea how to write a script. I didn't even own script writing software.
I started working on the idea over the Christmas break during my first year of graduate school at USC. It started as a synopsis. Then grew into a treatment. Then, I put down my first couple of drafts. By my last year of school, 3 years ago, I fast-talked my way into a small, extremely exclusive class taught by the head of the writing department, the writer of my alltime favorite childhood film, TOP GUN. In that class, the other students taught me immeasurably about the craft of re-writing, and helped my hone my story. I hoped to fashion a script that I could actually direct myself, so I could begin my directing career.
I graduated from school, got friends to give me notes, and continued to re-write the script. One of my directing professors took a liking to the story, 2 years ago, and offered to produce. He helped me hone the story even more. But his connections to financing fell through, and he left the film.
A year and a half ago, some friends from Oklahoma started a film fund. They wanted to make LOST & FOUND the centerpiece of their slate. But their financing didn't materialize either.
A year ago, I asked a manager to read the script, and he responded to it. He signed my writing partner and I, and passed the script along to ICM. The team at ICM responded to it, and they signed both of us.
Six months ago, 2 close friends with extensive producing background started a production company. They showed it to an investor. who loved it. These 2 friends spent months putting together a business plan for the film, 2 inches thick. We signed a co-production agreement last week.
I'm on my 20th draft of the script. The basic concept is the same, but virtually everything else has changed. I've learned to be patient, to hope....but not get my hopes up. I pray that this new opportunity will be the one that gets this film from the page to the screen!
Updates on the Journey of this Dream
Two steps forward, one step back...
One step forward, two steps back...
Sound familiar? Anybody out there who has spent years chasing down a dream knows exactly what that feels like.
Since my last posting, there have been some big new changes. Through our...
Another step back....
We lost the backing of our principal investor, who was committed to providing/raising the entire budget, which was in the millions. Very disappointing.
However, we knew going in, and we know now more than ever, that getting a feature film made is a difficult...
Well, hopes were high a couple weeks ago when a close friend agreed to pass our script on to a MAJOR distributor and financer in the family film genre. But we hit a stumbling block when one of their readers didn't respond very well to it. Because our story fits so well within the kind of...

Movie Script
Wow! How exciting! I love that you have persisted. Don't you think that's at least half of fulfilling dreams? :) I was an avid Nancy Drew reader and when I finished those, I started in on the Hardy Boys. Desperate times call for desperate measures! :) Of course they were just as wonderful. A good chunk of my childhood was sitting in front of the typewriter or with a yellow steno pad, writing my own mystery stories. Not writing mysteries anymore and the typewriter is long-gone (although a part of me would like to find one just for fun), but the dream of writing is still alive. Just getting back to it recently. Good luck with your screenplay. Going to go see what else there is to see about it...I saw a link...

interested in writing, eh?
Hi there, thank you very much for the encouragement! The writing process takes major stamina. Its a marathon for sure, and there is a huge amount of time between concept and completion. Whats your story? And by that, I mean your life story? You mentioned that you have a dream of writing? If you don't mind me saying so, your writing style is very clear and lovely, and I bet your narrative style would flow just as clearly and easily into the imaginations of your readers:)
Are you working on anything now? If you'd like eyes on any of your work, I'd love to take a look and give (sensitive) feedback, writer to writer. And if you like, I could send my script over for any notes you might have, if you're interested in reading the story. I'm about to do another pass on the script and incorporate some new notes....
Would love to read/hear more about you if you feel like posting on your profile. If you do, send me a link!

Just finished some new script polishes
The script was at 118pages, but after some cutting it's now down to 102. I tried a new technique this time... Rather than cutting huge chunks I tried trimming 10 percent from each scene. For any screenwriters out there, it was much less painful than amputating whole scenes! I think this is the script we are locking for the time being to send out to cast and investors!!!!
Another step completed......

This is a dream I can personally guarantee will come true...
...because I'm helping to produce it! And we are going to make darn sure that this gets made, somehow, someway. You've poured you're heart and soul into this dream and I believe, like the Alchemist, that when you truly know what you want, all the universe conspires to help you achieve it. So we have cosmic reinforcements getting our back on this! Failure is not an option.

Hell yes
Thank you my friend. I love that quote from the Alchemist. I'm going to post it to our quotes on the site right now! So glad we're locked in this roller coaster together!
