My story is still being told, as is true for all of us. But the part I'll share here is that which is relevant to the pursuit of my dreams. I grew up in a family and an environment where dreams were cherished and nurtured. Most the people around me were dreamers in their own ways. I was in a community of individuals who had pursued whatever it is they deemed important and fulfilling, even if it went against the mainstream. I was taught that the pursuit of our dreams should trump all others. I still believe this. That's probably why I am pursuing a life as a filmmaker. If I was going for what is safe, secure or certain I would do anything but this. Filmmaking is a tumultuous, tentative and intermittent life (as I was warned). But it is also vastly rewarding and there is nothing else I would be happier doing. I can see my future self at the end of a long life of filmmaking, challenged yet invigorated by the path I chose, and ready to do it all over again.
