Rain Breaw
I am an independent film director and web developer. My film work includes a recent PSA, A Home Makes All The Difference, for the Los Angeles Youth Network (through Women In Film), and the feature film, Mr. Sadman (as a producer).
I became a filmmaker because, at a very young age, I learned of the great the power of story-telling media to make a difference in this vast world, both for better and worse. I was born and raised an idealist and believe to this day that every human being has a basic right (and responsibility) to opportunity, knowledge, and the chance to not only better him or herself, but to have an impact on others as well.
Growing up, I was a continental-US nomad. Born in Denver, CO, my earliest memories of "home" include locations such as South Dakota, Colorado, Massachusetts and California. By the time I was in high school my spirited (and legally-blind) mom and I found ourselves in San Diego, where proudly I attended one of the most culturally-rich, economically-poor high schools in the country, Crawford High. With my friends all being fairly recent immigrants to the US from distant lands as diverse as Afghanistan, Somalia, Burma, Vietnam, Cambodia, etc., I was fortunate enough to have a view of the world, and of American culture, that wouldn't have been available even if I'd had the financial opportunity to travel globally.
With this experience, and a strong desire to tell stories and be a valuable citizen, I seek every opportunity available to create media that helps to make the cultural and ideological richness of this world available to as many people as possible.
While not making films, I enjoy developing cutting-edge, standards-compliant websites through SunRain Productions. During 2008, I was the Technical Supervisor for the Stand Up To Cancer website, StandUp2Cancer.org, helping to bring the initiative online during it's inception. I have also had the pleasure and challenge of teaching interactive and web media at multiple Community Colleges in the New England and Upstate New York region, and to curate a new media center at Vassar College known as the Media Cloisters, presenting the innovative learning model of the Cloisters at such national conferences as the Coalition for Networked Information in Washington D.C.
