The great thing about co-writing is...

...when you get stuck you can pass it to your partner to take over. I took an edit pass at our TV pilot after I finished it last week and had zero perspective. We have to cut lots of pages and beef up the humor at the same time. I could do neither. So I sent it to Joseph who now is chopping and tweaking away with fresh eyes. More >

had coffee with a TV writer today

She is a friend of mine who is a successful TV writer. It was great because I wanted to get her insight as I venture into that field. She told me her whole story and how has worked for her. It great to talk to people really doing it because it makes the dream so much more tangible and attainable. She also is connecting me with some of her other TV writing friends. More >

First Draft Done!

We'll technically it won't be done until we spend the next few days and weeks editing it down and polishing it into something we can show people. And then come the endless rewrites...But at least I got through last page! The first coat of paint is on the wall. That is the hardest part. More >

In the groove now

I ended up writing more than planned yesterday, all the way through the next act. This is good news. Joseph and I had another great brainstorm session today and hammered out the rest of the pilot. Now our goal is to finish the first draft by August 1. Its ambitious but we're going for it. More >

Good session today

I am feeling inspired after a good brainstorm session with Joseph about our next feature script. We had a breakthrough and are starting to get the shape of the story down. So I'm going to use this burst of motivation to get up early tomorrow and write at least 5 pages on the pilot.

Making progress on the first draft

Well I am officially half way done writing our first TV pilot. Its been challenging tackling a straight comedy, there is so much to learn! But I believe everything improves with practice so I'll get there soon . The good news is during some of our brainstorms Joseph and I have been cracking ourselves up. That is a good sign I hope. Anyway, I really want to finish this draft by August 1. More >

its all in your head

There are days when I feel great, pumped, high on life and feeling like all my dreams are within arms reach. Then there are days I feel like the world sucks and my dreams are hopeless fantasies. Sometimes these two days follow one after the other. The funny thing is, most often the only difference between one day and the other is my perspective.

Found some inspiration today

I have to share a little story that gave me a boost today. There is this guy I've been working with for several months at my job. He is my supervisor actually. Or rather, was my supervisor, until he got fired out of the blue a few weeks back because of irreconcilable differences with the higher ups. Fortunately he was able to find another job within a week, but only for a short term. More >

Sunday

I've said it before but I'll say it again. The cornerstone of all film and television is story. And story starts with words on a page (it starts with the idea, but let's skip that step so I can make my point). I know I have to write before I can direct. For most, not all, this is the way into a directing career. And it will be the way in for me. More >
