Found some inspiration today

I have to share a little story that gave me a boost today. There is this guy I've been working with for several months at my job. He is my supervisor actually. Or rather, was my supervisor, until he got fired out of the blue a few weeks back because of irreconcilable differences with the higher ups. Fortunately he was able to find another job within a week, but only for a short term. Well he emailed me a news article today about a reality TV pilot that he independently wrote, produced and financed.

First let me explain that this town is literally littered with independently produced reality TV (and every other kind of TV) scripts and pilots like his. The good ones are lucky if they get a legit TV executive to look at it long enough to reject it. The others drift away, along with the producers hopes and dreams, never to be seen at all. In short, independent projects like this are a dime a dozen and selling them is a long shot at best. (Mind you Joseph and I are rolling the dice on a TV pilot of our own right now!)

Back to the story. This guy really went out on a financial limb to produce his pilot and he was just starting to shop it around town when he got fired. Well the article was from a TV industry zine that profiled his project as a potentially hilarious show and said that there was a buzz developing around it. He told me that several of the big networks are already interested and may want to buy it!

We'll see if he really does, but I just found his news super exciting. See, it really can happen!
